Riley turned two-years-old on April 22, 2008, so I decided to get him one of his favorite treats..McDonald’s! I even got it in a kids meal for him, but Brandon got to keep the toy.

I want to just remind everyone that this is not a balanced, healthy diet for any dog, this is purely a very occasional treat. He eats his regular dog food every day along with either low fat vanilla yogurt or fruit for snacks in between meals.

I give Loba Eukanaba as a higher quality food along with the bulky and more fatty Frolic. Eukanaba is more crunchy and designed to keep teeth and gums healthy. It has more vitamins than Frolic and I buy the pack designed to maximise health in West Highland White and other Terriers. Eukanaba is quite a bit more costly than frolic but she eats far less of it so it works out cheap anyhow. I reckon she costs about £5 per month for the two, but she gets plenty of extra treats as rewards. This does not make her overweight because she is very active, walking four miles every day with loads of ball play.

Poor Casper the American Bulldog has an allergy and can only have grain free treats. So Er and I decided to try baking some. They werent very pretty but the dogs loved them. Part 2 of 2

Heres the recipe:
1 Lb ground meat (lamb, beef, chicken, turkey) Lamb and beef tend to be higher in fat. Chicken and turkey might be a better choice for an overweight dog.
1 large sweet potato (cooked and mashed)
1 large egg
1/4 tsp garlic powder (not garlic salt)
5 tbsp. large flake rolled oats (organic if possible)
Pecans are optional
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients in a bowl, mixing up very well.
Lightly grease a cookie sheet with olive oil. (Very slightly )
Dump ingredients on cookie sheet and spread evenly and flatly to the sides of pan. This should be about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
Bake for one hour at 350 degrees.
Remove pan from oven and use your cookie cutter at this time, if you want. If you don’t have a cookie cutter, just score the ‘cookie dough ‘with a knife or pizza cutter, into squares.
Put back into the oven and bake for another hour at 250 degrees.
This will dry these healthy dog treats out. Keep an eye on your oven. The time could be more or less, depending on how hot your oven runs.
These dog treats should be fairly dry and a little crispy, but not burned.

We took our dog, Pumpkin to the Three Dog Bakery in San Clemente for the very first time. It’s a bakery for dogs and your pet is welcome in the store. The owner, Claire was very friendly and helpful. She gave Pumpkin a free sample.

There were so many homemade treats to choose from. We ended up buying a cookie a la carte from the display case and had it boxed. We also bought peanut butter cookies for Pumpkin to share with Mack (our neighbor’s dog). What’s really great about this place, the treats are healthy and your dog will love it!

Hi everyone, I just got allergy testing done on a stray pup I found two months ago. He was in really bad shape and I had to spend over $2000 to get him healthy(mange, worms, teeth removed, hematoman, ect) and NOW he’s got major allergies. I am trying to find out if anyone knows any good treats to buy at PetsMart or the grocery store for dogs with allergies. I’m trying to avoid homemade treats from doggie bakeries. Most of his allergies are to trees, grass, and fungus, but the foods he is allergic to are CHICKEN,CORN,CARROTS,BARLEY AND EGGS. He CAN have BEEF, PORK,VENISON,DUCK, MILK, WHEAT,OAT, CHEESE AND FLOUR. Does anyone know of any good dog treats that are not homemade or doggie bones that he can enjoy, but will not have a reaction to. I am giving him allergenic shots every three days too, but I don’t know how well that works. I am loosing my mind! I just want to find a good treat for my baby bowser. :) Help please?

First of all I hope with that many allergies you are giving him homemade food ,,Every one I know whose dog had allergies has switched to cooking their food for them..It is cheaper, and because they absorb more of the nutrients in it they have less and smaller poop..you simply cook meat till just done add to Brown rice and vegetables,,We use green beans, squash, zucchini, and peas, the ratio is 1/2 meat 1/4 rice and 1/4 veggies..their coats will be better and they will be more fit and even better it might not need allergy \shots any more..For treats we simply give raw carrots, green beans (cooked) ..Also wheat just adds weight to a dog and most are allergic to it..below are a few links to help you..My sister uses this recipe to make dog treats for her dogs.
Homemade, Wheat Free Dog Treats
1/4 cup honey
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
2 cups chicken broth or water
1/3 cup peanut oil 1 cup rolled oats
1 cup oat bran
3-4 cups oat flour

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 ° F (180 ° C).

In a small dutch oven or large saucepan, combine honey, peanut butter (try to find a brand that has no added suger, salt or other ingredients; ideally it should only contain peanuts), chicken broth, and peanut oil. Heat, stirring often, until mixture begins to simmer. Remove from heat. Stir in rolled oats and oat bran and let cool until lukewarm — or cool enough to work with. Gradually blend in oat flour, adding enough to form a stiff dough.

Transfer to a floured (oat flour or rye flour) surface and knead until smooth (about 3-5 minutes). Shape the dough into a ball, and roll to 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick. Use a mini-cookie cutter or cut into small squares. Transfer to ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 1/4 inch (6 mm) apart. Gather up the scraps, roll out again, and cut additional biscuits. If the dough becomes too crumbly to work with after a few rollings, sprinkle with a little water to bind it together and knead it for 30 seconds or so.

Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and turn over. Bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until golden brown on both sides. After you finish baking all batches of biscuits, turn off the oven, spread all the biscuits in one baking pan and set them in the oven to cool for a few hours or overnight. The extra time in the oven as it cools off helps make the treats crispier. These make a more delicate crunchy biscuit, so we use them more for special or training treats, not tartar control.

Makes several dozen small treats that keep and freeze well.

i have asked this question before but id like a recipe where there isnt any liver or guzzards(?) and stuff like that! Any simple recipes or tips??plz answer!!!!!

Just found this in one of my magazines.

Banana Doggie Treats

5 cups flour
1/2 cup chopped peanuts
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 egg slightly beaten
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups pureed bananas
2 teaspoons vanilla
water

Preheat oven to 325 and set the rack on the middle level. Have one or two ungreased nonstick baking sheets ready

Mix the flour, peanuts and baking soda together in a large bowl. gradually stir in the remaining ingredients., except the water, until lumpy but blended.

Add enough water, a teaspoon at a time, to make a stiff dough. Knead by hand until thoroughly mixed. Or you can blend everything in a food processor.

Form 4 logs, 2 on each baking sheet, and flatten each into loaves that are 3 inches long, and 1 inch high. (for large treat, make 2 logs, 1 on each baking sheet. Flatten til about 1 inch high and 6 inches long)

Bake for 30 minutes at 325. Remove from oven to wire racks and let rest for 10 minutes. Leave the oven on.

Transfer the loaves to a cutting board and slice into 1/2 – 3/4 inch pieces. (it’s easiest to slice then on the diagonal, using a serrated bread knife)

Put the slices back on the baking sheets and bake for about 20 minutes longer, turning once, until they are golden brown. Cool on wire racks. Store in a tightly closed Tupperware container at room temperature.

Hi,
Okay, my friend and I are going to make homemade dog treats and sell them. We need a recipe for them. Please help asap!!!
Thanks much:)
we also would like to decorate them so can you give me a recipe for some kind of edible decoration like frosting for dogs? Please and thank you:)

Peanut butter Dog treats

2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 cup skim milk

Preheat oven to 375 degrees
In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder. In another bowl, mix peanut butter and milk.
Add wet mixture to dry, and mix well.
Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out to 1/4-inch thick and cut out shapes.
Place on a greased baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool on a rack and then store in an airtight container.

Makes 30 large dog treats.

These last about a week with my pack. If you are feeding (treating) one dog or small dogs and need them to stay fresh longer than a week they can be dehydrated. Place the cookies on a baking sheet back in a cool oven. Leave the door closed over night for the moisture to be removed. I use my food dehydrator instead of the oven method. They can also be stored in the fridge.

I am opening a website that sells homemade dog treats. I am hoping to be able to package them in advance. Do homemade dog treats expire? Is so how long do they last and how to prevent homemade dog treats from expiring? Any other advise would help too. Thanks
How long will they last frozen?

Freeze them as soon as they cool, and I usually ditch them when they have been thawed for more than a week…which almost NEVER happens in my house. In the summer, my dogs will eat them straight from the freezer.

I’m looking for free online dog treat recipes that can keep on the shelf for a decent amount of time. I have tons of dog treat recipes for dog treats but they all need to be refrigerated! help please.
